The IHM programme is split up into four years, in which the third year of the programme will be done in The Netherlands. The phases of which are described as follows:
Year 1 - Foundation Phase
The foundation phase places emphasis on the moments of truth and is divided into two semesters, each one incorporating two
modules.
The emphasis in the first semester is on-stage, i.e. what happens in direct contact with the guest. You will encounter both in theory and in practice aspects of hospitality. Matters dealt with are: how to approach guests, ICT, cultural differences, evaluating the experiences of guests, complaint settlement, and so on.
In the second semester the focus shifts to all that happens back-stage, behind the scenes, i.e. how a hospitality company functions, how to find qualified personnel, the operational activities, and the way in which services are produced and distributed.
Year 2 and 3 - Main Phase
During the first two semesters of the main phase entitled "Managing daily operations", you explore the hospitality industry at middle-management level. You translate the knowledge you gained in the foundation phase into management tasks, problems and theories, in order to gain insight into how a hospitality organization is managed.
These semesters are the preparation for the third semester of the main phase: "Changing Environment", in which management tasks especially at the strategic level are the focus. Year 2 and 3 include subjects such as financial management, human resource management, operation, marketing, law, information management, negotiation and quality control, market analysis and business plan development.
To complete the requirements of the Dutch BBA degree, you have to obtain 60 EC in the Netherlands. In practice this means that you will spend your third year at one of our campus sites in the Netherlands.
Year 3 and 4 - Graduation Phase
The graduation phase starts in the second half of the third year. Now you will be able to acquire further knowledge in your own preferred field of specialization by choosing minors that fit you best. Go to Minors for more information on this. Also you will follow your internship in this period for which you can choose to go abroad or stay in Indonesia and you will be expected to do a business improvement project for your host company.
'Bachelor's test'
You will graduate on the basis of your 'Bachelor's test'. Through a dissertation and research you must prove that you can work at a professional university level. The theoretical basis for it is laid in the third year of your study. You will have to formulate a problem statement for a company with research questions according to a proven methodology.
