Meppel, the Netherlands 

Meppel, the oldest community of the province Drenthe, has approximately 31.500 inhabitants. It is a small city on the border of Drenthe and Overijssel. Meppel has a lot of things to offer for both inhabitants and tourists.

There is a great variety of landscape in and around Meppel. In the old days peat was shipped from Drenthe to the other parts of the Netherlands. These days Meppel is, together with Assen, the main facilitating city of the province.

The city centre has a cozy atmosphere, with the old house fronts, small streets and beautiful squares. In the summer, Meppel is the starting point of the Drentse four day cycling tour.
