WELCOME TO THE RAINBOW NATION!

South Africa is a country with almost unrivalled beauty. It is incredibly diverse in landscape, climate, architecture, cultures and languages and it is for this reason that South Africa is often referred to as a world in one country. South Africa boasts some of the most exquisite scenery ranging from pristine coastlines, phenomenal mountain ranges, deserts and wide open plains filled with the Big Five.

This amazing landscape is the setting of a dramatic and turbulent history and the home to the world renowned statesman and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nelson Mandela. South Africa has 11 official languages which reflect a variety of tribal groups, cultures and descent.

Although South Africans come from many cultural traditions, they constitute a single nation. It is a melting pot of age-old customs and modern ways, building a new South African society to create a better life for all.

South Africa is divided into nine provinces: Eastern Cape, Western Cape, KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, North West, Free State and Northern Cape.

The travel, tourism and hospitality industry in context
Historically the main economic drivers in South Africa were its minerals, agriculture, manufacturing and financial services. Over the last decade there has been a radical turn around of events putting the travel, tourism and hospitality industries at the forefront of the drivers for the 21st century, generating a phenomenal turnover and providing many jobs in South Africa. These industries are incredibly human resource intensive creating jobs across the full employment spectrum. A bright and exciting future awaits hospitality and tourism managers in these industries, and a bcom degree in hopitality would be a invaluable tool.
