What is a bachelor degree?

A Bachelors degree is an undergraduate academic degree, which is awarded upon completion of a course or major of at least three years. In 2004 the Dutch degree system was changed to abide to international standards. Former degrees (baccalaureus, doctorandus, ingenieuw and doctor) are still granted along with the international equivalents. Bachelors degrees are granted by both colleges (after four years of education) and universities (after three years of education).

Difference colleges and universities

There difference between the degrees granted by colleges and universities; a Bachelors degree granted by a university provides immediate entry into a masters programme, because they are already tutored in research fields. A Bachelors degree from a college requires an extra bridge year or pre-master year to be allowed into a masters programme, because college degrees arent tutored in research fields.

Possibility to work

It is possible for international students in Holland to work part-time. You are allowed to work 10 hours per week. Recruitment agencies outside Stenden and Service Jobs, our internal recruitment agency, can help you find a part-time job. Stenden students have found a job for example in a restaurant, a pub, a call centre agency or at Stenden. Please do realise that many jobs require a good knowledge of Dutch.

Master Programmes

When you finished your Bachelor programme and want to contiune studying on a higher level, you can enrol in one of the Stenden-School of Graduate Studies Master programmes.
