International Tourism Management
International Tourism has become one of the most important export industries in the last decade. The World Tourism Organisation expects to see a hundred percent increase in arrivals and turnover within the next twenty years, which will give rise to a a growing demand for professionals in the field.
The International Tourism Management programme is directed at sustainable tourism development with a concern for the community. Tourism can make a useful contribution to the (economical) development of a place, region or country if sustainable tourism is the starting point of the development.
The International Tourism Management programme trains students for management, policy-making and consultancy positions in the international tourism industry.
Design
The programme is based on a course at strategic management level leading to a bachelor's degree. The school works with a modular system, i.e. each module is centred on a certain theme related to practical issues in leisure and tourism.
Contact hours are intensive, students work in groups of max. 14 students and are expected to participate actively. The minimum number of contact hours is 5, and the maximum is 12.
In any case, students will have to study independently and do project work adding up to an average workload of 40 hours a week. One such week represents one study point. In order to improve the student's ability to work in different teams, module groups are changed every six weeks.

Marjolein Galema
International Tourism Management student from the Netherlands
"What I like about the Tourism Management education is that it is not only theory, with the cases and the assignments you already have to apply the theory to real situations in the tourism world. Due to the fact that we work in teams often you learn to deal with different kind of people, with all their own view, and way of working. This also shows what you are like in a team and how you can develop yourself. Furthermore, the fieldtrips can give an even better inside, because you are really at the destination. Together with the management skills lessons, that show your abilities as a manager, it prepares you for the world of tourism. Furthermore, the Grand Tour is also an opportunity to go abroad and visit other destinations where there may be dealt very differently with the aspects of tourism.
Tourism Management for me is a diverse and dynamic education, with the fieldwork that gives you an inside into specific tourism areas; this all in a diverse and harmonious environment. It mainly prepares and gives you a look into the dynamic World of Tourism."
