Curriculum 

The first year - Foundation Phase

During in the first semester the focus is on what happens in direct contact with the guest? You will learn how to approach guests, ICT, cultural differences, evaluating the experiences of guests, complaint settlement, and so on. The study is renowned for its balance between theory and practice. The practical part of the study takes part in a professional hotel, Stenden university hotel.
In the second semester you will learn what happens behind the scenes, i.e. how a hospitality company functions, how to find qualified personnel, the operational activities, and the way in which services are produced and distributed.  

The second and third year - Main Phase

The first semester of the main phase is "Continuity of the Business", you explore the hospitality industry at middle-management level. You translate the knowledge you gained in the foundation phase into management tasks, problems and theories, in order to gain insight into how a hospitality organization is managed.

This is your preparation for the subject: "Changing Environment", in which you will learn at the strategic level. In this phase you can specialize and put gained knowledge into practice through your joining minors, an international Grand Tour of exchange programme or practical work experience.

Year 2 and 3 include subjects such as financial management, human resource management, operation, marketing, law, information management, negotiation and quality control, market analysis and business plan development.

The fourth year - Graduation Phase

During the last year of your study, you will follow an (inter)national internship in a company and position of your choice. In the end, you will write your dissertation (research) as graduation assignment.
For this, you will have to formulate a problem statement with research questions according to a proven methodology. You will defend your dissertation in front of a commission consisting of professors and work field representatives.
