Launch of IHM 25th Anniversary Celebrations

Stenden University’s International Hospitality Management programme will celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2012.

IHM is therefor organising interesting events and activities in 2012: from a Cruise Conference to a College Tour, and from participating in the Classic Sailing Race for students to the Conference Days for our alumni and business relations. See the  specially developed website for an overview of all the events and activities scheduled for 2012 and the 25th anniversary film.

Plenty of reasons to celebrate

International Hospitality Management started out as a Dutch-language programme in 1987, but an English language variant was introduced soon afterwards. Thanks to the strong international focus, the programme became completely English in 2000 and a year later Stenden opened the first foreign campus site in South Africa. In the years that followed, Stenden also opened campus sites in Qatar, Thailand and Bali. As a result, the students of International Hospitality Management Stenden could take the Grand Tour on three continents. Stenden also recently introduced an Associate Degree in International Hospitality Management at the Stenden location in Emmen.

Offer a rich education in hospitality

Over the past 25 years, International Hospitality Management has grown into one of the biggest educational institutions in Hospitality in Europe. The programme has its own hotel, restaurant, bar and conferences halls. One of the special features of the programme is that it has enabled Stenden to offer its students an education based on the principle of Real World Learning: The latter principle will also continue to be an important focus of attention in the future. The programme is currently hard at work at setting up a Hospitality research centre, and it is also preparing graduate courses in the fields of Cruise Management, Events, Wine and Gastronomy and a Master’s in Sustainability and Gastronomy. While the programme has produced 10,000 alumni, Stenden believes that by diversifying and improving,  it will be able to continue to offer future students a rich education in Hospitality.

Charity partner: Mary’s meal

IHM wants 2012 not  to be only a celebration year for students and relations but would like to contribute  to the lives and education of less fortunate pupils by fundraising for charity partner Mary’s Meal.
Mary’s Meals is a global movement that sets up school feeding projects in some of the world’s poorest communities. The idea is simple. To provide one daily meal in a place of education in order to attract chronically poor children into a classroom where they gain an education that can, in the future, be their ladder out of poverty. For more information regarding Mary’s Meals and the link between food and education visit the website or watch the short on-line film.
