An invitation to join the European Academic Network for Work Based Learning
Middlesex University and the University of Chester intend to submit a proposal to the European Union Lifelong Learning Fund to support the development of a European Academic Network for Work Based Learning.  As an existing exchange partner of either Middlesex or Chester or both, we would welcome your involvement in the Network and extend a warm invitation to you to join us as a Network member.
The Network aims to generate a sharing of information and expertise about a wide range of models of Work Based Learning.  It will include, for example:

  • Accreditation of learning
  • Negotiated learning agreements for work based study
  • Reflection on practice/reflective learning
  • Continuing professional development
  • Adult learning
  • Undergraduate placement learning/accreditation of Erasmus
  • exchange placement learning
  • University-business partnerships

It will do this through:
An annual conference.  For three years, 75% of the cost of travel, accommodation and subsistence for one academic member of staff to attend the annual conference will be paid for from the EU grant awarded, together with a modest contribution to staffing (for example, staffing costs for one day at EU specified rates) for each conference attended.
A web-site designed to share information and expertise

Both Middlesex University and the University of Chester have developed expertise in Work Based Learning over the past 20 years.  They are leaders in this field of study in the UK and have advanced knowledge, research expertise, and large student numbers on programmes of Work Based Learning.  Together they will manage the Network and oversee all of its activities.

What it requires from your institution is an interest in Work Based Learning and either the intention to explore what it has to offer with a view to developing provision of your own or, if you already have provision, a desire to learn more from other partners and a willingness to share your own ideas and expertise.  No other responsibilities or costs will be involved.

If you are interested in joining as a Network member, would you please e-mail either d.major@chester.ac.uk or c.costley@mdx.ac.uk as a matter of urgency.  We will then send you an application form to return to us as soon as possible (and by no later than 14th February).  The submission is due in on 28th February so this does not leave a great deal of time for us to get the bid completed.  Thus, your cooperation in making urgent contact with us would be appreciated.
